Blood. The composition of blood with all type of blood corpuscles.

Hii frnds i'm Prem singh first year D pharmacy student of Onkaar college of pharmacy Sangrur Punjab, and preparing for neet 2022. Recently I started blogging to help the d pharmacy students.

                              Blood

Blood is a specialised connective tissue which is fluid in nature. The total volume of blood in the body is about 6 liters.
With a pH of about 7•4 . The specific gravity of blood is about 1•005.

Composition of blood: Blood contains a fluid called plasma, in which the cellular elements of blood are suspended.

Cellular elements of blood:  The cellular elements of blood are:
1) Red blood cells ( Erythrocytes)
2) White blood cells (leucocytes)
3) Platelets (Thrombocytis)

Red Blood Corpuscles: They are circular, biconcave, disc shaped cells. They do not have a nucleus. But they have a respiratory pigment called hemoglobin. The normal RBC count is 4.5 to 5 million per cu. Mm. RBCs serve important functions such as transport of oxygen and maintenance of acid base balance. They are synthesis in the bone marrow found at the ends of long and short bones. The average life span of RBC is about 120 days.

White Blood Cells (WBC) : They are colourless cells containing a nucleus. They are large is size  than RBCs. Also their number is less when compared to RBCs (about 8000 per cu.mm of blood).

Platelets :  These are round or ovel shaped cells with biconvex surface. They are roughly one fourth of size of a RBC. Platelets count is 2to5 lack per cu.mm of blood. Platelets do not have a nucleus. But cytoplasm contains distinct granules. They are Synthesised by Megakaryocytes (gaint cells) of bone marrow.
